Water Resistance: Just Like Real Rowing
American Made Since 1988 – The WaterRower Oak Original Series rowing machine is handcrafted in solid oak wood finished in Danish oil. It features the S4 Performance Monitor.
The WaterRower Oak rowing machine is handcrafted in solid oak wood, and finished with Danish oil. Wood is an excellent material for this application due to its ability to absorb sound and vibration enhancing the WaterRower’s smooth, quiet operation. The Oak, as with all WaterRowers, features patented WaterFlywheel technology, unrivaled in its replication of the resistance felt in on the water rowing.
Oak, like all woods used in WaterRower rowing machine construction, is a premium hardwood with incredible longevity and dimensional stability. For ecology reasons, all our woods are harvested from replenishable forests.
The WaterRower Oak comes standard with our S4 monitor, providing a robust assortment of in-workout performance data and advanced training features. Enjoy a quick-start workout session or delve into our assortment of time, distance and advanced zone training workouts to reach your training goals.
Enhance your workout by adding the WaterRower ComMod for Bluetooth functionality. This straight-forward hardware upgrade allowing for seamless connection to our portfolio of popular indoor rowing apps, such as WATERROWER CONNECT and CITYROW.
Add the Phone & Tablet Arm to your WaterRower to conveniently see your device for added motivation while surpassing your workout goals!
The S4 Monitor has been designed with user friendliness in mind.
It has been designed for easy QuickStart of most functions, simply press the on button and away you row.
Delve a little deeper and there are many more advanced functions for the novice through the elite user.
The S4 Monitor displays intensity in m/s (meters per second), mph (mile per hour), /500m (time per 500 meters), /2km (time per 2 kilometers), watts and Kcalories per hour. It Displays Strokerate, Heartrate (with optional heartrate attachment), Distance in units of meters, kilometers, miles and total strokes and duration.
TOTAL Window displays Total Time, Total Distance (in meters), and Total Calories burnt.
CURRENT Window displays current stroke rate, current speed in mph (miles per hour) and /500m (split time per 500 meters).
RACE/PACE Window allows setting of time or distance race pieces as well as a quick restart of the race.
Why Water?
The WaterRower’s unique WaterFlywheel design uses a specially formed paddle to cup the moving water, reduce slippage and produce an unrivaled simulation of the benefits of rowing.
Self Regulating Resistance – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel resistance varies proportional to the users intensity. The relationship between resistance and speed responds according “the rule of cubes”. The rule of cubes dictates that a doubling of speed requires an eight fold increase in power. The outcome is that the resistance when rowing is infinite and infinitely variable. Water is 800 times denser than air, and there is therefore no need for extraneous adjustments.
Self Paced – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel does not apply resistance to you, you apply work to it; you are the engine. By the “rule of cubes”, the amount of work you apply dictates the speed at which you row. From a gentle paddle to a “give it your all” workout, you are in control. This allows Anyone to row regardless of age, sex, size of level of fitness.
Even Stroke – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel uses a relatively slow-moving heavy mass to generate a smooth uniform load throughout the stroke. Air resistance machines, by comparison, tend to be jerky, jarring, and uneven, fading as the initial resistance is overcome.
Fluid Connection – like rowing, the WaterFlywheel creates a fluid connection between rower and water using a simple immersed paddle. There is no solid mechanical connection, instead the contact between the paddle face and the water acts to dampen out any detrimental mechanical feel. This provides some “give” which is essential for accommodating bad or developing technique, lessening the risk of injury.
